The first step is to look at the art. Typically, tattoo artists will have their previous work readily available to show you. These days, most will have their work available online. You can see this work by looking at their in person or digital portfolio. When looking, keep two things in mind. First, does the art style match what you want? Some artists are better at certain types of styles. They may do a phenomenal abstract piece, but they may not do realism well. You also want to look into the quality, obviously. Make sure that the work looks good and that it meets your standards. How the tattoo will look is important, but it is not the entire picture.
Once everything is done, you want to enjoy the tattoo and you want to be happy. You want to go about your life loving your ink. Even with exceptionally done pieces, though, this is not always possible. If the shop is not clean and does not sanitize their equipment properly, you may come away with a blood borne pathogen. These will affect the quality of your life. Check to make sure the shop is clean, look online to see what people are saying, and check out the shop before making a final decision.
Prices matter, too, of course. You want a good tattoo at a price that you can afford. Sadly, this is not always so easy. Some artists are expensive and most of the cheaper artists do not have the quality that you expect. Do a price comparison before choosing. Look at the different artists in your area, or around your area if you are willing to travel, to see who has the best work at the most affordable prices. If you are willing to pay a little more, consider the benefits of a higher end artist. If you ever find yourself in the Kentucky area we would be honored to have the opportunity to earn your trust.
